SSphere is delighted to share with you that Lighting Planners Associates (LPA) organizing a travelling exhibition “2050 Nightscape – A dialogue between Cities, People and Light in future”, to mark LPA’s 25th anniversary.  The exhibition will commence in Berlin in August, then move to Singapore in November 2015.

In addition, UNESCO is celebrating the year 2015 as the international year of the light. The exhibition will then travel to Hong Kong and Tokyo in early 2016.

LPA has also been actively conducting non-project base activities under the banner of the “Lighting Detectives”  to engage the public to create awareness for a better lighting environment. “Nightscape 2050” exhibition is aimed to explore a new horizon of lighting design.

The exhibition will be:

  • Experiential, so that the visitors are able to feel the different lighting phenomena proposed.
  • Educational. so that we could learn from nightscape around the world. Also, thought provoking interviews with visionairs will be displayed.
  • Imaginable that creative sparks by children and young students/ designers through workshops give hope to the future

Lighting Planners Associates (LPA) is an organization of lighting specialists established in 1990 in Tokyo, Japan by acclaimed lighting designer Kaoru Mende. The goal of LPA is to design and build outstanding lighting environments that enrich our architectural and lighting culture.
LPA has been collaborating with internationally renowned architects and have participated in over 500 projects, largely in Asia. The firm handles wide range of projects from residential, hotel, commercial, public spaces, landscape to full scape urban lighting projects, and have received numerous international lighting design awards.

Kaoru Mende was born in Tokyo in 1950. In 1990, he founded Lighting Planners Associates Inc. The scope of his design and planning activities ranges widely from residential and architectural lighting design to urban and environmental lighting. Mende is also the acting chief of the “Lighting Detectives”, a citizens’ group that specializes in the study of the culture of lighting.
Mende has been involved in such superb projects as Tokyo International Forum, JR Kyoto Station, Singapore City Center Lighting Master Plan, Alila Villas Uluwatu, Aman New Delhi and Façade lighting for Tokyo station.
